Pilot study

Objectives

  1. (OBU) Investigate prevalence of summertime overheating in five case-study care homes in the Greater London area using environmental monitoring and occupant feedback.

  2. (OBU) Identify any disparities between the thermal comfort levels of care home residents and staff.

  3. (LSHTM) Assess the impact of heat exposure on the health of residents.

  4. (UCL) Model different types of care homes in the UK. Used these to evaluate the effectiveness of overheating mitigation strategies in a range of current and future climate scenarios.

  5. (UCL) Explore the implications for guidelines and regulations. Consider ways to replicate this project on a national scale.
